THE GENERAL STORE
CLOSED UNTIL FURTHER NOTICE
It is with heavy hearts we’ve decided to close our store in Tynemouth for the foreseeable future.
We’ve been back and forth on what the right thing is to do, along with trying to do what we can to secure our future.
We’ve decided that to assist with the government’s call for social distancing the best thing in the interest of everyone’s safety is to close up shop for now. It’s a small store and we just wouldn’t be able to ensure 2m distance between people as recommended.
Like many businesses, especially small indie businesses like ours, we’re gutted. But, we will keep going and try to weather these unprecedented times like everyone else.
Thank you for all your support. Keep in touch with us on social channels and we’ll be working hard to keep our online store up to date with all our quality kit. We do free UK shipping and global shipping too.
We look forward to seeing your faces in healthier times.
David, Zoe, Alex and Billie x
You'll find us in Tynemouth Metro Station, in an arcade of wonderful shops called The Sidings.

Why we opened The General Store
We reach lots of people though our online stores, from folk around the corner to as far away as Australia and Japan, but we don’t always get to speak to you.
We therefore always wanted to open a showroom too, a place where people can come and talk to us about the product, the history, the zips and finer details – if they want to. This is where the concept of The General Store came from.
Our customers aren’t one ‘type’; you could know your kit and be in to the history of a garment, or you could just appreciate a well-made item of clothing, or you love the thrill of a vintage find.
We wanted to create a store where you could come along for a try-on, a chat and a cup of tea if you fancy.
The vast majority of our product is menswear, but we do have some unisex product.
Billie, our cockerpoo is often here. You’re welcome to bring your dog to the shop too, there’ll always be some treats waiting :-)
