This US Army M-43 Mountain Smock was used by the Mountain Division throughout the Second World War. This was a specialist force that was first deployed in 1944 in the Italian Alps, fighting in some of the roughest terrain of the Second World War. The M-43 Mountain Parka was developed for the mountainous terrain they operated in, designed to be worn as a an oversized top layer worn over any kit and additional warm layers that were required.
The Parka features an olive green body with slanted chest pouch pockets. The body is constructed with an elongated, generous fit, with an adjustable drawstring hood, and a three button neck closure. It has been fitted with button adjustable cuffs and a drawstring hem for a customized fit.
Used and in good vintage condition considering this is circa 80 years old with general signs of wear, abrasion, discolouration and marks throughout. The parka has small nicks/ tears to the fabric from use and a small hole with fraying approx 1cm to the front left (as worn) hem area. The right cuff is missing one button for the tab adjustment. Not quite perfect but still an amazing smock that has stood the test of time. Freshly laundered and ready for a new owner.
