In 1945, the U.S. Army Air Force issued the Jacket, Aircrew, Heavy, Type N-3, the first of a long line of very successful N-3 style parkas. The N-3 evolved into the N-3B by 1958, described as 'for aircrew members in extremely cold environments'. The N-3B is also known as a "Snorkel Parka" because the hood can be zipped up, leaving only a small opening (the snorkel) for looking out.
This is a vintage N-3B USAF military snorkel parka with a real fur trim hood which is dated via the label to having been produced in 1959 in the USA by Alpha Industries. Alpha Industries is an American clothing manufacturer founded 1959 in Knoxville, Tennessee. Initially a contractor to the United States military, it is fair to say they know a thing or two about military flight jackets.
Used and in great vintage condition with minimal signs of wear. There is some bobbling to the cuffs. An iconic bit of kit that is circa 70 years old and very hard to come by in this condition. Please note the front bottom 2 buttons are not original and replacements. Freshly steamed and ready for a new owner.
