Introduced during WWII as the US Navy's alternative to the U.S. Army’s M-41 Field Jacket, the N-4 acted as a lightweight, indoor utility jacket. The WWII N-4's were produced in a distinctive olive colour, however as the Vietnam War loomed, the US Navy began to adopt more innovative materials. The N-4 jacket was updated updated with more contemporary materials, including nylon lining, with a unique napped reverse side, offering exceptional heat-retention properties while maintaining a lightweight feel.
Many of the M-41's classic features are maintained with the N-4. The straight silhouette, button down front & front welt pockets. This particular N-4 jacket was used by a sailor of the Richmond K. Turner, which operated between 1963 - 1995.
Used and in good vintage condition with general signs of wear and discolouration with some light marks throughout. There is some light fraying along the right cuff (when worn). The interior back neck label has been hand-stitch repaired. Freshly laundered and ready for a new owner.
