This is a vintage US Army WW2 M-1943 Wind Resistant Field Jacket. Lightweight like its M-1941 predecessor, the M-1943 served essentially as a wind breaking layer that could be worn in any number of climates. Unlike the M-1941, the G.I.'s needs were actually considered during its design. As a result, it became the most popular field jacket among the US Army and became the base for its predecessors, evident in the designs of the M-51 and M-65.
The jacket is woven from densely-woven windproof cotton sateen in order to provide wind-chill protection. Features which made the jacket so popular included the four frontal button-close flap pockets for storage, a drawstring internal waistband for a customized fit and its darker shade of green providing better camouflage. The M-43 saw use by the US Army during the latter half of WW2 and is arguably one of the most iconic military garments of the era.
Used and in good vintage condition with general signs of wear throughout. There are some paint marks, the front hem and along the left arm (as worn) has some red marks, plus some green marks above the cuff. Circa 80 years old and still going strong, this has stood the test of time. Freshly laundered and ready for a new owner.
