The Mackinaw hunting coat originated in America in the 1800s and is still as popular today. Mackinaw cloth is a heavy and dense water repellent woolen cloth, similar to Melton cloth. It was used to make a short coat of the same name, more suitable for deep snow, sometimes with a doubled shoulder for extra warmth. They were originally meant to be blue in colour but due to a fabric shortage were made in the black on red plaid that is associated with the jackets today, and the Mackinaw jacket was born.
This is a vintage circa 1950s Hercules by Sears Double Mackinaw wool hunting jacket with two layers of wool over the chest, arms and upper back to help protect against the elements. Other features include 4 front pockets and rear stowage game pocket. Made in the USA.
Used and in good overall vintage condition considering the age, with general signs of wear and abrasion with some discolouration/ marks. The paint has come off the poppers and there is a small hole approx 0.5cm to the back right (as worn) hem side seam area.
All my vintage listings unless otherwise stated are true vintage and have been worn before, therefore they will typically show signs of wear and will not smell like new, which is all part of the vintage look and appeal.

HOW TO CHOOSE YOUR SIZE: Please DO NOT solely rely on the listed size for your correct fit. Designers often use different measurements for sizes depending on the overall look they desire, so sizes can not only vary brand to brand but also within the same brand. Also, for vintage and pre-worn items the shape may have changed after years of being worn. The best way to ensure your correct fit is to compare the measurements listed to a similar item that fits you well.
EXTERNAL MEASUREMENTS: Please check against a similar garment of your own that fits you well, measuring flat and fully zipped or buttoned up (if applicable) on a flat surface:
