Vintage M-1951 2nd Generation 1950s US Army Fishtail Parka M Oversized

£445.00 GBP

  • This is the M-1951 fishtail parka first used by the United States Army in 1950 during the Korean War. Designed primarily for infantry, they were oversized as they were designed to be worn over battle dress and other layers. Also known as the M-51, the M stands for military and the number for the year it was standardised. The name fishtail comes from the fish tail extension at the back designed to be tied around the soldier's legs for extra insulation and could also be folded up and popper secured.

This is a 2nd generation M-51 parka made in the lighter weight cotton cloth, which dates the parka to circa 1952. The parka is complete with button detachable wolf fur trim hood and button detachable wool cotton liner, and a heavy duty Conmar aluminum front zipper. Made in the USA.

Used and in fair to good vintage condition for being 70 years old, with general heavy signs of wear, abrasion and discolouration throughout with some more noticeable marks to the rear right (as worn) upper back area and right upper arm. There have been a number of stitch/ patch repairs to the rear right back arm and there are still a few small holes, and a tiny hole to the right upper front arm area. The liner also has been stitch repaired at the hem and there are still a number of holes. If you are looking for a well worn M-51 with bags of character then this is the one for you. Steamed and ready for a new owner.

All my vintage listings unless otherwise stated are true vintage and have been worn before, therefore they will typically show signs of wear, which is all part of the vintage look and appeal.

Also, for vintage and pre-worn items the shape may have changed after years of being worn. The best way to ensure your correct fit is to compare the measurements listed to a similar item that fits you well.
